Walt Disney World Value Resorts Ranked
Walt Disney World value resorts are a great way to get all the perks of staying on property without spending an arm and a leg. You have five options when choosing a value resort, Art of Animation, Pop Century, All Star Movies, All Star Music and All Star Sports. Below you will find our list of Disney value resorts ranked so you can decide if a Disney value resort is the right choice for you.
You may be wondering what you are losing out on by spending less on your hotel. Value resort pools do not have a waterslide. The layout of each resort is also very spread out which means that you probably have a bit of a walk to get to the bus stop location unless you luck out with your room location or pay for a preferred location. Note, the bus only picks up and drops off at one spot in the value resorts. The buildings are also built motel style so there are no interior hallways to get to your room everything is outside. The standard bed size in these rooms is actually a full versus the queen size you will get at the pricier resorts.
It isn’t all bad news with a value resort, though. You still get access to extra magic hours, one of the best perks in my opinion. From what I have observed after staying at almost all of the Disney World resorts over the years is that the value resorts have more buses, more frequently. I think this is due to the fact that they hold a lot more people and need to accommodate for this.
Disney Value Resorts Ranked Best to Worst
1. Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
The Art of Animation Resort is the newest of the value resorts and it tops our list at number one. Considering this is a value resort, Disney went above and beyond on the theming you can find here. This resort offers up four main areas, Finding Nemo, Cars, The Lion King and The Little Mermaid. All areas offer up only family suites with the exception of The Little Mermaid. It is important to note that this is the most expensive out of all the value resorts.
Looking for a great food option at your hotel that won’t break the bank? The Landscape of Flavors is your spot.
2. Disney’s Pop Century Resort
If you enjoy experiencing blasts from the past then this resort is themed perfectly for you! Each decade is represented at this resort starting in the 1950’s and ending in the 1990’s. From yo-yos and Play-Doh® to Rubik’s Cube® and rollerblades, this resort gives a nod to all sorts of fads from the past.
A great tip for this resort is you can all the great service of the art of animation buses without paying the extra to stay there. There is a walking bridge that actually connects the Pop Century to the Art of Animation. Why? Well did you know the original plans for Art of Animation building was to be the earlier decades of Pop Century? During construction, the recession hit and construction stay for years before they decided to move forward with instead building the Art of Animation.
This resort also has a solid food court offering. Be sure to try out their famous tie-dyed cheesecake while you are there! Unlike the Art of Animation, there isn’t as big of an emphasis on healthy options and serves more traditional offerings. This is a perfect match if you have some picky eaters in the family.
3. Disney All Star Movies
All Star Movies ranks highest on our list of the “All Stars” series of resorts at Disney World. This resort celebrates the magic of Disney movies. The pool here is a hit with small children if you are bringing them along on your trip. We think out of the three the theming here is the best.
4. Disney All Star Music
The All Star Music hotel that pays tribute to some of the world’s most popular music genres, including country, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, calypso and Broadway-style show tunes. This resort is a hot spot for youth group traveling to Disney to perform or compete. It’s why a lot of families tend to steer clear of this option and spend a little extra to stay at Pop Century. This is the most recent of the All Star Resorts to get a major refurbishment. At the end of 2016, the food court reopened after a major overhaul.
5. Disney All Star Sports
This resort is dedicated to competitive sports like football, soccer, baseball, and basketball. Last I stayed here I had a terrible experience which is probably why it ranks at the bottom of my list. This is because the resort is a hot spot for the youth teams that are competing at Disney’s Wide World of Sports and I found this hotel to be a bit used and abused.
It has since received a refurbishment but the last trip really left a sour taste in my mouth. As a plus, out of the three All Star locations, this one has the newest and best food court. If your family is big into sports the courtyards are sure to be a home run. They are the perfect spot to burn off some energy and play a game of catch, flag football or any game really.
